Warners is no stranger to innovation in the strapless category. In 1961—back when women’s intimates weren’t necessarily synonymous with comfort—the brand released a strapless bra it dubbed the “Light-Up,” the first style of its kind made from Lycra, more commonly known as spandex. “Warm weather’s coming,” detailed a vintage Vogue advertisement for the Light-Up, which retailed for $5.95. “And here’s 1961’s great new strapless…the bra that shapes you with so light a touch, you forget you have it on!”
